Mitigating the Risk of Parvo
The biggest enemy that harms the American Bully and other breeds in the early stages of their life — and can kill them later if not treated as puppies — is the “Parvovirus.” Any reputable breeder will administer the proper shots at the proper time, or take the litter to the vet to have the shot done. Having a cleaned quarantine environment is highly suggested in the early stages of your litter’s life. This area should be cleaned with bleach and water.
The Parvovirus has the ability to live and travel on a person, for example, on your shoes if you’ve ventured into an area where other animals may have access, such as PetSmart or a park. It may be a good idea to remove shoes or treat your attire accordingly in order to kill the live strain before having contact will your puppy.
It is recommended that a litter/puppy be given their first round of shots from 5 to 6 weeks of birth — around the time the litter is weaned from mom. Once the puppy is removed from mom, the litter loses those natural antibodies that help protect their immune system.
Infamous Team Reed Bullies recommends that our puppies refrain from contact from any dogs that have not been treated. If you are not 100% sure that the dog has had its shots, treat that pet as a risk. All new owners should treat their yard and living area by spraying and wiping the area with the recommended mixture of bleach and water solution. We also recommend keeping the dog away from foreign environments the first 7 to 12 weeks of their life to mitigate any risk.
Disclaimer: Infamous Team Reed will not be liable for any puppy who may acquire this deadly disease if our recommendations/instructions are NOT followed. Please be aware you MUST obtain a full physical from an accredited veterinarian for your pet within 72 hours of physical ownership of your new puppy.
