Finding the Right Shampoo
There’s several different dog shampoos on the market — some extremely expensive and some cheap. What you wash your dog with depends on your objective. Are you trying to eliminate fleas and ticks, or is this just a monthly washing?
Just like humans, all dog’s skin and coats are different, and you should choose a shampoo that best suits your canine’s needs. Did you know that Dawn dishwashing liquid works great to repeal fleas, is mild enough for sensitive skin dogs, and may be the best soap to wash puppies with?
Diluted black coated dogs, more commonly known as blues, have sensitive skin and are extremely allergic to grass and pollen. Yes, dogs have allergies too, especially in Blue American Bullies. (The majority, but not all blues.)
I’ve tried several different products looking for something to help with my dogs’ skin problems. A small amount of unrefined coconut oil placed in their meal daily helps keep their skin moisturized and their coats shiny! Applying coconut oil to the coat is another remedy to help maintain your dogs coats. I eventually gave this human shampoo product a try and it works fabulous. It helps keep the dogs hair shiny and their skin moist and not dry. Adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar to their water helps with flies and mosquitos, too! Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil is also great to add to your shampoo!
To control that dreaded dog smell in between baths, get a cheap spray bottle, add water and apple cider vinegar to it, and spray it on your dog and their area from time to to neutralize the dog smell!
Update: For serious skin and grass issues, try a couple capsules of Benadryl, or the generic versions! We recommend using right before feeding or right after feeding.
